Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD)
Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) is a widely used technology in different professional streams like engineering, architecture and planning to help them design and produce drawings. Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) can also be used to produce maps and is an effective replacement to traditional cartographic process. All the map elements like lines, point symbols, polygons, text etc. are included in CAD and can be referenced into a geocoordinate system. All the data in a CAD system is organized as layers and are like registered overlays. The layers can be organized to prepare thematic maps using features depicted. CAD can substantially reduce production time over the traditional cartography and allows the user to edit and modify map elements easily.
CAD offers benefits such as better organized data, storage and retrieve easiness and many more. Civil engineers use CAD to store and manipulate mapping data for design process. Publishers and cartographers use CADD systems to create maps. But CAD can not be utilized for analyzing data because in a CAD system the features are associated by theme, as layers referenced to a common geographic coordinate system, but the relation ship between data elements are not defined. Spatial analysis and spatial relationships are not defined in the data structure of CAD and is not well suited to establish or answer spatial relationships. So generally for spatial data modeling the CAD systems are converted to Geographical information systems (GIS) to establish spatial relationships and their analysis and querying.
SBL has years of experience in CAD to GIS conversion processes in addition to photogrammetry, remote sensing and spatial data modeling. SBL is specialized in any format to any format image and spatial data conversion, with well satisfied customers all over the world.
